Foivos Krommydas, Japanese And Taiwanese New Wave of Cinema: National And Societal Identity In The Avant-Garde Cinema of Eastern Asia

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the similarities and the differences of two waves of avant-garde cinema in two different Asian countries, which are historically connected and share a cultural interaction. What themes are explored in these films? How are their countries and their respective societies represented? At what length does the sociopolitical context influence artistic expression? And, after all, what is considered as a cinematic breakthrough in each occasion and how does it emerge? These are some of the questions posed in the thesis.

This presentation centers around the process of conceiving the subject of the thesis, as well as its practical elements: the gathering of the films and the holdings, the methodology followed, the procedure of writing, the difficulties faced shall be the main themes, followed by the progress made thus far and the goals set for the near future.

Christos Xenos, «The Greek Film Production: 1942-1990. Cultural and production changes».The object of our presentation is the methodology of our dissertation. Our research is

multimethological. Its purpose is to explore and map Greek cinema in the period 1942-1990 in the light of its production process, which has been little studied, through the theoretical model of Fordism / post-Fordism, adopting a sociological perspective of the production of culture (Peterson, 1976), the perspective of the art world (Becker, 1982), but also taking into account the change of approach recommended by Caldwell (2008) and production studies (Mayer, Banks & Caldwell, 2009) in research on the production process of the film industries, towards a micro-level of analysis of the culture of production.

Eleni Pnevmatikou, «Cultural Trauma, Forced Relocation and a Virtual Reality view at the Pontokomi’s community case».

Pontokomians have to deal with a new forced relocation, which they perceive as a "second immigration", since it’s been a century after their ancestors’ forced mobility and consequent trauma (Asia Minor Catastrophe, 1920-23). This study investigates the conditions that could cause a cultural trauma – along with its unique characteristics - to Pontokomi’s inhabitants. Furthermore, via the use of virtual reality (VR) applications we are evaluating how the recollection and transcription of memories can positively reinforce the individual or collective trauma management process of Pontokomi’s inhabitants.

Nikos Lourandos, Post cards as a means of reminder and connection continuity of the immigrants with their place of origin: Kythera-Australia 1950-1970

An interdisciplinary approach to the use of postcards as a communication object, with additional elements, which allowed the connection continuity with their birthplace. The study of these objects yielded elements that allowed their treatment beyond the usual, ie the tourist one, and turned them into cultural carriers of communication and interconnection.
