Member of the Panteion research team for the European program ‘CODES’. The ‘CODES’ is an interuniversity project (Erasmus + key action 1: Strategic Partnerships), co-ordinated by the Lumière Lyon 2 University of France that brings together the research teams of six European universities (Panteion University, Université Lumière Lyon 2, Sapienza Università di Roma, Europa-Universität Flensburg, University of Coimbra, University of Bucharest), with the aim of connecting university with society and defining the role of education in managing diversity and multiculturalism.
Having graduated from the School of Law of Athens and acquiring my Master’s degree in “New Media and Journalism” by the Department of Communication, Media and Culture of Panteion University, I found myself -at the age of 25- committed to the professional and academic target of bringing together the two fields of my academic background. More precisely, my Law studies, as well as my long – term commitment and participation in organizations and activities promoting human rights triggered in me a huge interest in the human rights world. This specific interest along with my passion for journalism and its role in crucial sociopolitical issues has been my main source of inspiration regarding the topic of my research.
Thus, in March 2018, I started my journey as a PhD candidate at Panteion University of Social and Political Studies under the research subject: “Journalistic narratives and human rights in war”. By choosing this specific topic, I want not only to investigate the relationship between the aforementioned academic fields (journalism and human rights), but also to answer the question if and how journalists integrate human rights issues in their narratives unfolded in conflict zones. In this way and by focusing on the journalistic approach of human rights, my dissertation intends to highlight an academic and professional sector, the so-called “journalism for human rights”.
