Culture and Cultural Management Lab
Coordinator: Αssistant Professor Martha Michailidou
The Culture and Cultural Management Track caters for students with academic or professional interests in the field of culture. Its aim is to familiarise students with the directions and priorities of work in the broad field of the arts (theatre, film, music, and the fine arts), cultural heritage (places of cultural reference, museums, cultural centres) and the cultural and creative industries. Concurrently, students become acquainted with the procedures of events management and fundraising, as well as with matters of cultural communication. In recent years there has been an emphasis on the potentialities offered by digital platforms for cultural administration.
Students who choose this track are trained in the Culture and Cultural Management Lab. Most of the laboratory courses culminate in organising a real event entirely by students (a concert, music event, film festival, video production, an exhibition at a museum or cultural site, and so on) something that gives them the unique opportunity to train in professional contexts and real-life conditions. The Lab collaborates with all the significant cultural venues in Athens with the aim of training students in the best possible conditions. In the context of this collaboration regular visits to cultural institutions are organised as are lectures by prominent professionals in the fields of the cultural and creative industries and cultural management.
Collaborations include, among many others, Onassis Stegi for staging a series of contemporary music concerts, Megaron – The Athens Concert Hall, the Art Theatre “Karolos Koun”, Technopolis City of Athens, the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Historical Museum, the Numismatic Museum, etc.
