PhD dissertation title: "Sexism and Public Discourse – Media representations of the Greek MeToo Movement"

Dimitra Mari was born and lives in Athens. She is a graduate of the Department of Communication and Mass Media of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, from where she received her first Master's degree in "Public Opinion and Public Communication" with a grade of “Excellent” (9.5). In the context of the Master's Program of Studies, she completed a diploma thesis, titled “Celebrity Politics: The case of the OBAMA 2012 Campaign”, supervised by Professor Lisa Tsaliki. In the years 2014-2015, she received her second Master's degree, in Corporate Communications and Public Relations from Leeds University Business School, graduating with Honours (2:1). From 2015 to 2021, she worked in advertising and public relations, until the end of 2021, when she decided to join the Academia.
Since Demcember 2021, she is a PhD Candidate of the Department of Communication, Media and Culture. Her thesis is title is “Sexism and Public Discourse: Media Representations of the Greek MeToo Movement” supervised by the Associate Professor Ioanna Vovou. She is interested in everything about feminism and women’s movement, pop culture, political communication, social trends, gender and media studies. Since 2021 she has been a Mentor in the Marketing Connections Alumni Mentoring Scheme organized by Leeds University Business School. In September 2022, she presented her paper, “Ageing femininities in popular streaming TV series: Grace & Frankie, The Politician, And Just Like That”, at the “Emergent Femininities and Masculinities in 21st Century Media and Popular Culture” Conference, held by the Department of Communication and Mass Media of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
