- Culture as a Pillar of Sustainable Development: The Case of Athens, March 8, 2019
Saint Mary’s University 12:00 to 1:30 pm McNally Main, Room 227
Cultural and creative industries can be a key driver of growth and sustainable development. However, in a competitive and rapidly changing world, unlocking the potential of the creative sector of the economy is not easy. International experience has shown that networking and cooperation, urban clustering and the creative use of information and communication technologies are of vital importance. Within this framework the impact of new cultural projects and initiatives is analyzed.
Particular emphasis is given to the initiative undertaken by Panteion University which led to the creation in January 2018 of a network of local authorities and cultural organizations which include, inter alia, the Acropolis museum, the National Library, the Athens Concert Hall, the National Museum of Modern Art and the Onassis Cultural Centre. Cooperation in the fields of technology, education and research and the diffusion of positive results to the wider region as part of an effort to promote a different development paradigm are among the main aims of this initiative.
