Ο Δημήτρης Σεραφής κατέχει διδακτορικό δίπλωμα (PhD; cotutelle) από το Πάντειο Πανεπιστήμιο Κοινωνικών και Πολιτικών Επιστημών και το Πανεπιστήμιο του Neuchatel (2017), μεταπτυχιακό δίπλωμα ειδίκευσης από το Πάντειο Πανεπιστήμιο Κοινωνικών και Πολιτικών Επιστημών (2013) και πτυχίο φιλολογίας (ειδίκευση Γλωσσολογίας) από το Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών (2010). Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέρονται εκτείνονται στους τομείς της Κριτικής Ανάλυσης Λόγου, της Κοινωνικής Σημειωτικής και της Επιχειρηματολογίας, ενώ εστιάζει σε θεματικές όπως ο ρατσισμός και ο λόγος μίσους, ο λαϊκισμός και ο αυταρχισμός, και ευρύτερα στην πολιτική και μιντιακή επικοινωνία σε περιόδους κρίσεων. Επιστημονικές του εργασίες έχουν δημοσιευθεί (μεταξύ άλλων) σε περιοδικά όπως: Discourse & Communication, Critical Discourse Studies, Journal of Language and Politics, Social Semiotics, Informal Logic, Text & Talk. Πρόσφατα επιμελήθηκε το ειδικό θεματικό τεύχος “Critical perspectives on migration in discourse and communication” (2021 – Studies in Communication Sciences˙ σε συνεργασία με τις Jolanta Drzewiecka & Sara Greco).
