Kakavoulia Maria, Professor

Maria Kakavoulia is Professor of Rhetoric and Narratology in the Department of Communication, Media and Culture, Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, Athens, Greece.

Maria studied Modern Greek Literature and Philosophy at the University of Athens, Greece (BA). She holds a Ph.D in Modern Greek Studies and Discourse Analysis from the University of Birmingham, UK (1992).  For four years (1986-1990) she lectured in Modern Greek, Institut für Byzantinistik und Neugriechische Philologie in the Ludwig-Maximillian University of Munich, Germany.

Maria has given lectures and seminars in many countries and universities. She has published books and articles on 19th and 20th century Greek poetry and prose, on narrative and media discourse and on aphasia language disorders in English, Greek and German language. For her book «Figures and Words in the work of Eleni Vakalo” (2005), she was awarded the first Greek state prize for Essay and Criticism. 

Maria Kakavoulia has been Onassis Visiting Scholar of the University Seminars Program (Onassis Foundation in the US, 2014) and a Research Fellow in the Program of the Hellenic Studies (Princeton University, 1998).

Her research interests focus on the interdisciplinary study of narrative, on discourse analysis and media rhetoric, on modern Greek and European modernism, gender issues, and language/body/ brain interactions.

Bakounakis Nikos, Professor

His most recent book is Journalist or Reporter. The Human Interest Story in the Greek Newspapers, 19th-20th century (in Greek, 2014, National Book Award, Athens Academy Ouranis Prize). He is currently at work on a book on the American author and journalist Stephen Crane in the Creco-Turkish War of 1897, a war considered to be the first “war-media event”. He is the recipient of several grants, awards and distinctions. In 2014 Nikos Bakounakis was given the medal of the Officier de l`Ordre des Palmes Académiques of the French Republic.

Leandros Nikolaos, Professor

Former Vice Rector for Financial Planning and Development and President of the Research Committee

Nikos Leandros is Professor of Economics with specialization in Media Economics in the Department of Communication, Media and Culture at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. He teaches Political Economy, Media Economics and Economics of Culture at undergraduate and post-graduate level. Vice Rector for Financial Planning and Development and President of the Research Committee between October 2016-August 2020. Chair of the Department of Communication, Media and Culture between September 2010 - August 2014.

Studied Economics in London and Manchester and was awarded his Ph.D from Salford University. Ηe taught Economics at Salford University and for a number of years worked in the Economic Research Division of the Bank of Greece. Visiting Professor in a number of Universities including: Boston University, Paris 8, Istanbul Bilgi University, Izmir University of Economics, Technical University of Cyprus. Faculty member of the International Syros Seminar «E-Journalism, Cultural Content and Creative Economy».

Nikos Leandros has published extensively in academic journals mainly on Media Economics and Economic Development. Author of the books Print Media in Greece. Economic and Technological Perspectives (Delfini, 1992), The Political Economy of Mass Media. The Restructuring of Media Industry in the Era of Information Revolution (Kastaniotis, 2000), The Internet. Development and Change (Kastaniotis, 2005), Corporate Strategies in the Media Sector (Kastaniotis, 2008) and Economic Crisis and Modern Development. The Perspective of Political Economy (Dionikos, 2012). Editor of the books New Technologies, E-Commerce and the Book (together with George Pavlidis) (Ziti Publications, 2004), The Impact of Media on the Mass Media in Europe (Abramis, 2006) and Tourism and New Media (together with Z. Andreopoulou, G. Quaranta & R. Salvia), (Franco Angeli, 2016).
