Are you eager to immerse yourself in traditional Chinese opera art and explore the unique charm of Zhejiang culture? The "Small Town, Grand Opera: China-Zhejiang Opera Journey Under Sino-Greek Civilizational Exchange" program is here! Join us now!
I. Basic Program Information
- Program Name: Small Town, Grand Opera: China-Zhejiang Opera Journey Under Sino-Greek Civilizational Exchange
- Duration: July 15–28, 2025 (14 days, including arrival and departure)
- Target Participants:
- Non-Chinese nationals (non-native Chinese speakers) aged 14–30 from Greece and Europe, including university/high school students and international students in China.
- Basic exposure to Chinese language and interest in Chinese opera culture required.
- Quota: 20 students (Minors require a supervising teacher at a ratio of 1:10)
- Locations: Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Jinhua, Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, China
- Organizer: Communication University of Zhejiang (Hangzhou, China).
II. Cost Details
(A) Covered by the Organizer:
- Accommodation, meals, and local transportation during the program.
- Full tuition waiver for all courses.
(B) Self-Paid Expenses:
- International round-trip airfare: Estimated €800–€1,200 (subject to actual booking dates).
- Personal expenses: Visa fees, travel insurance, and leisure activities.
- Intercity transportation: Approximately €80/person for four city transfers (Hangzhou–Shaoxing–Jinhua–Wenzhou–Hangzhou).
- Cultural experience fees: Optional activities in each city (€40–50/city, 4 cities total).
III. Program Highlights
This program explores Zhejiang’s representative operas, such as Shaoxing Yue Opera, Jinhua Wu Opera, and Wenzhou Ou Opera—all recognized as national-level intangible cultural heritage.
- Expert Guidance:
- Led by Luo Tong (renowned director and Greek theater scholar, a key figure in Sino-Greek cultural exchange).
- Taught by professors from Communication University of Zhejiang.
- Immersive Cultural Experiences:
- Traditional opera immersion: Appreciation of classic performances, costume and makeup trials, vocal and gestures & postures training.
- Four cultural cities: Hangzhou (West Lake), Shaoxing (Yue Opera Museum), Jinhua (Shuanglong Cave), Wenzhou (Birthplace of Southern Opera).
- New Media Practice:
- Participate in a short video creation workshop; outstanding works will be showcased on a dedicated TikTok account. Certificates awarded upon completion.
